Johnson & Johnson MedTech is recruiting for a Senior Director, Tech Ops & Supplier Readiness RAD to be located in Santa Clara, CA.

Johnson & Johnson MedTech offers a broad range of products, platforms and technologies ranging from surgical sutures to complex robotics in various clinical specialties such as electrophysiology, orthopedics, general surgery, and ophthalmology. The sector offers very broad range of products such as implants to hand held devices and complex robotic systems. As the industry is moving into smart/informed surgery visualization systems have gained more prominence within the sectors key focus areas. 

The Senior Director, Tech Ops & Supplier Readiness is a critical leadership position and will be part of the Robotics and Digital Supply Chain Leadership Team (LT).  The position responsibilities are the transfer of technology (from R&D to Supply Chain) for new products that result in less complexity, improved agility and that can reliably deliver quality products at lower costs.  Through orchestrating end to end Technology Transfer in collaboration with Project Leadership, R&D and Supply Chain organizations, is responsible to deliver new products to market on-time while achieving gross profit targets. 

The incumbent works in lockstep with Project Leadership, R&D, QA, SC early in the new product development cycle (concept, charter and stage gate one) to influence the optimal manufacturing methods (injection molding, 3D printing, machining, etc.), processes and quality inspections to ensure products are designed for value and manufacturability.

This leader collaborates with our Global Commercial Platforms to translate our product portfolio strategies into investment plans and profitability glide paths that achieve our growth and profit aspirations.  Guides cross functional teams to make appropriate tradeoffs - make versus buy, dual source for business continuity versus cost, speed in launch roll outs versus risk in excess and obsolete for predicate product.  

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

·       Engages with the Robotics and Digital Leadership Team in the formulation and execution of technology transfer strategies for RAD.

·       Considers cross functional (R&D, Quality and Supply Chain) implications in decision making and via modeling behaviors and coaching employees, creates a culture and organizational capability to design and execute the technology transfer with an end-to-end view.

·       As part of the portfolio strategies related to new products act as ‘Gross Profit’ and (GP) ambassador and cost of goods (COGs) optimization ensure GP roadmaps align with broader business expectations.

·       Provides technical thought leadership and influences organizational direction related to manufacturing methods and/or processes, intellectual property opportunities for product and processes, competitive insights impacting portfolio strategies, etc.

·       Seeks customer insights in order to translate into technology transfer design requirements that enhance the customer experience and create competitive advantage.

·       Is a champion for continuous improvement instilling that mindset across technology transfer.

·       Leads the Technology Transfer process for the platforms across to meet new product development and introduction goals.

·       In close partnership with R&D and Supply Chain ensure product and process characterization generate high levels of capability.

·       Responsible for cost of goods (COGs) optimization per business expectations

·       Supports new products through to market introduction until achievement of stabilization metrics via partnering with Project Leadership, R&D and Supply Chain.

·       Engages in due diligence of target acquisitions assessing technologies and processes to estimate integration effort, time, and risks.

·       Influences manufacturing network strategies (make versus buy, strategic partners and location concentration) based on the product portfolio roadmap, global growth strategies and GP aspirations.

·       Ensure product and portfolio knowledge management is adequately transferred to the functions and embedded in key processes (S&OP, LCM) beginning in earnest at limited launch.

Qualifications

Requirements:

    • A Bachelor's Degree is required (preferably in Engineering or a technical discipline)
    • A minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience with a Bachelor’s degree OR an MBA/other advanced degree with at least 12 years of relevant business experience?  
    • A minimum of 10 years of people management with an organization greater than 100 
    • Strong project and program management background
    • Experience in the development and introduction of new products including quality and regulatory implications for the supply chain design
    • Understanding of design for manufacturing, design to value, design for lean sigma
    • Experience in organizational design and accelerating talent through people development
    • Comfortable navigating to deliver results in a global matrix organization
    • Track record of leading and managing multiple functions across supply chain
    • Experience in medical device
  • This position may require 30% travel (domestic and international)

Preferred:

  • MBA or an Advanced degree in an Engineering or a Business-related discipline
  • MedTech, Product or Process Engineering or Manufacturing Operations experience

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $184,000 to $317,400.
