Senior Director of Global Distribution (d/f/m)
Location: Aachen, Germany
The Senior Director Global Distribution , will be accountable to oversee the logistic spend and the day to day operations of core distribution activities including customer service in support of the global Abiomed business. Abiomed is present in most markets of the world, representing more than $1 billion of revenue with projected strong growth and premier market positions. Currently Abiomed is running 3 different distribution centers (internal and 3PL) in USA, EMEA/APAC and Japan. In collaboration with the Supply Chain LT the Senior Director will develop, implement, and drive the global deliver strategy which is a crucial element to successfully meet the 5 year growth plan of Abiomed.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for global logistics spend (internal and 3PL managed distribution centers)
- Direct the organization's Customer Service, Distribution (50 -100 employees) and Transportation activities including management of 3PL support for Deliver
- Provide strategic direction, leadership, and performance management across the Global Deliver Functions
- Lead day to day operations focused on safety, quality/compliance, customer service
- Maintain all budgetary, compliance and works hand in hand with our E2E functions
- Partner with 3PLs for CI and ensures Health, safety and Sustainability are prioritized
- Tracking relevant performance metrics and escalating issues where appropriate
- Ensure Quality and Compliance expectations/goals are met
- Ensure appropriate maintenance of buildings and equipment are planned and executed
- Ensure optimal space utilization and strategic capacity planning
- Own the holistic SC Deliver business plan for the Abiomed business
- Participate in strategic planning for medical devices network ensuring future needs of customers are met
- Reduce overall supply risk though contingency planning, risk mitigation, understanding of deliver capabilities, and disaster preparedness using appropriate tools
- Establish and ensure alignment of Deliver objectives to meet strategic, competitive, and internal needs of stakeholders and customers
- Understand E2E Supply Chain Strategy and implications for site technology/capability roadmap
- Develop and manage strong relationship with operating company and strategic business partners to deliver agreed upon targeted business plans and day to day customer service/operational requirements
- Apply operational excellence /lean methodology to increase effectiveness/efficiency, partnering with 3PLs as appropriate to ensure methodology embedded throughout sites processes
- Understand and manage department budget/headcount
Qualifications
Job Qualifications:
- BA/BS required in Business, Logistics/Supply chain management or related field, MBA/MS preferred
- Experienced professional with business experience in multiple leadership roles across a variety of functional specialties with at least 10+ years within a Logistics/Supply Chain environment in a senior position
- Good level of understanding of the Distribution processes and experience in engaging internal stakeholders and leadership teams
- Strong Customer Orientation (building and maintaining strong relationships with Abiomed senior Management)
- Strong leadership, vision/strategy setting, communication, influencing, collaboration, talent development skills are key
- Strong project and change management capabilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skill with ability to confidently present complex information
- Ability to continuously improve the organization
- Strong Business Acumen, Medical Device and specifically Abiomed relevant industry experience preferred
- Multi-country and Multi sector experience preferred
- High level of credibility with internal customers, and with the supplier community
- Strong influencing skills with ability to see issues from multiple viewpoints and understand differing needs of stakeholders (e.g., businesses, Procurement LT, Marketing, R&D, Supply Chain); has "presence"
- Proven track record in attracting and developing talent
- Proven track record in leading cross-functional teams and executing significant influencing roles
- Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to respond to changes in the external environment, while ensuring the organization is able to effectively and efficiently move through transitions
- Experience to work across regions and understand markets
- Continuous improvement/lean/six sigma experience, black belt preferred
- Experience with SAP preferred, or another ERP, device management and procurement systems
- Experience as a strong visionary and leader, and experience managing others
- Willingness to travel mainly to distribution centers
- German and English language skills required
