Janssen Research & Development seeks to bring creative and effective treatments in oncology, neuroscience, infectious diseases, cardiovascular diseases and metabolism, immunology, and pulmonary hypertension. In these areas, Janssen aims to address and solve unmet medical needs through the development of small and large molecules. The Janssen campus in Beerse (Antwerp, Belgium) has an unusual ecosystem covering the complete drug development life cycle, with all capabilities from basic science to market access on one campus. Our medicinal chemistry group in Beerse is now expanding our small molecule capabilities into peptide therapeutics. We are currently looking for a highly motivated and experienced peptide chemist to contribute to our peptide drug discovery programs and advance them towards the clinic, with the profile indicated below.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop peptide synthetic strategies using state-of-the-art science and drive productivity in the laboratory setting.
- Own the automated peptide synthesis infrastructure and collaborate across groups and sites to further develop our global peptide chemistry team and expertise.
- Contribute to the design, synthesis, and identification of oral peptide drugs.
- Advise and train our expanding Beerse staff on peptide synthesis techniques and peptide medchem optimization.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Experience
- PhD degree in organic, medicinal, or peptide chemistry, or a B.Sc. / M.Sc. degree with an equivalent level of relevant experience.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in peptide chemistry in a pharma- or biotech environment.
- Strong background in peptide chemistry and respective technologies with a commitment to lab work.
- Experience in oral peptide design strategies, including half-life extension approaches and incorporation of unnatural amino acids is preferred.
- Track record of scientific contributions (peer reviewed publications, patents, oral presentations).
