As a Mechanisms Engineer at Impulse, you will be responsible for the design, development, and testing of flight-critical mechanisms, actuators, and deployable structures for Impulse’s next-generation transfer and hosting vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptual, detailed design, and ownership of flight mechanisms
  • Perform analyses to support design including hand calculations, finite element analysis, and kinematic analysis
  • Test mechanisms and structures on both component and system levels to validate design intent and characterize performance
  • Source commercial components to support design as required
  • Update designs and documentation to support continuous improvement
  • Work with internal manufacturing group and external suppliers to produce designs

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or science
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design
  • Experience with kinematic mechanical systems
  • Demonstrated ability in conceptual design, fabrication and testing of hardware
  • Demonstrated ability to apply dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Proficiency in CAD software with ability to learn new tools
  • In order to be successful in this role, you should be someone who is uniquely creative, self-driven, and is able to lead his or her own projects to completion
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across different teams
  • Ability to communicate technical challenges, explain rationale and/or resolve concerns

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years' of demonstrated experience in space mechanism development (solar array, booms, SADAs, deployables, separation systems, etc)
  • 5+ years' of demonstrated Prior experience with testing mechanisms for development, flight qualification, and flight verification
  • Prior experience in high performance, cost and mass optimized hardware design
  • Experience in a space startup or agile development environment
  • Experience with Siemens NX
  • Experience with creation of deployable structures models in NASTRAN, ABAQUS, or ANSYS
Additional Information:

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
