About us:
Aeva’s mission is to bring the next wave of perception to a broad range of applications from automated driving to industrial robotics, consumer electronics, consumer health, security, and beyond. Aeva is transforming autonomy with its groundbreaking sensing and perception technology that integrates all key LiDAR components onto a silicon photonics chip in a compact module. Aeva 4D LiDAR sensors uniquely detect instant velocity in addition to 3D position, allowing autonomous devices like vehicles and robots to make more intelligent and safe decisions.
Role Overview:
As a Photonics Module Engineer, you will be working on the core photonic technology enabling Aeva’s industry-leading FMCW LiDAR. You will be a critical part of the development and demonstration of new photonics designs, advancing the capabilities of Aeva’s product line

What you'll do:

  • Bare die through system-level characterization and validation of novel photonics designs and modules
  • Develop models and simulations that correlate with measured data to fully understand integrated designs and identify any performance gaps
  • Work cross-functionally with EE, Optics, Test, System, and other functional groups within the company to achieve goals and understand results
  • Help coordinate and support special module builds for proof of concept and validation experiments
  • Support new photonics designs and architectures through modeling, special builds, and custom experiments

What you'll have:

  • MS or PhD in electrical engineering, physics, or related field
  • >2 years of hands-on experience in characterization of photonics components, subassemblies, and/or modules
  • Understanding of active and passive photonics components (waveguides, MMIs, photodiodes, lasers, SOAs) as well as typical electrical components (laser drivers, TIAs, PLLs)
  • Experience using Python, MATLAB, JMP, or similar for lab automation, modeling, and data analysis
  • Familiarity with optical light budgets and optical link analysis
  • Experience with free space optics and/or coherent transceivers
  • Nice to have experience in LiDAR design or automotive product development

What's in it for you:

  • Be part of a fast-paced and dynamic team
  • Very competitive compensation and meaningful stock grants
  • Exceptional benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, and more
  • Unlimited PTO: We care about results, not punching timecards
