ABOUT THE TEAM
Anduril’s Reliability & System Safety Engineering organization is seeking a System Safety Engineering leader to join our team in Costa Mesa, CA. The Reliability & System Safety Engineering team works with our broader Engineering team to ensure our products operate and meet all mission performance, environmental conditions, and customer requirements. We develop cutting-edge Reliability & System Safety processes and methods to secure scalable, long-term business success.
As a System Safety Engineering leader at Anduril, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing comprehensive safety frameworks across our product portfolio. Your expertise will be instrumental in guiding product teams through the System Safety lifecycle, from initial concept to field deployment. You will spearhead continuous improvement initiatives, manage risk mitigation strategies, and foster a culture of safety throughout the organization. In this role, you will leverage your extensive knowledge of advanced Reliability & System Safety tools and methodologies to drive excellence in our safety processes. Your experience in managing complex hardware programs and leading multi-disciplinary teams will be essential in ensuring the successful integration of safety principles across all stages of product development. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a pragmatic, results-driven approach, capable of building world-class System Safety processes while collaborating effectively with diverse teams. Your ability to analyze field performance data, identify trends, and implement lessons learned will be critical in maintaining Anduril's commitment to safety and operational excellence.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead and manage the performance of a team of System Safety Engineers, providing technical guidance and mentorship on System Safety principles and best practices
- Develop and implement tailored System Safety program plans aligned with MIL-STD-882E and the needs of Anduril & its customers
- Communicate the Anduril System Safety vision, goals, and framework to standardize development efforts across the business, and oversee the integration of System Safety processes across all stages of product development
- Conduct and review complex safety analyses, including FHA (Functional Hazard Analysis), Fault Tree, SCFTA (Safety Critical Functional Thread Analysis), and SSA (System Safety Assessments)
- Develop safety requirements and collaborate with design teams to implement safety solutions
- Manage hazard tracking databases and ensure proper risk mitigation strategies are in place
- Liaise with customers, regulatory bodies, and internal stakeholders on safety-related matters
- Drive continuous improvement in System Safety processes and methodologies
- Ensure compliance with relevant military and industry safety standards
- Contribute to proposal efforts and support business development activities. as required
- Support Business Operations continuous improvement through software tool requirements development and beta testing to improve hazard tracking & maintenance, communication, data automation, and metrics.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline
- 7+ years of experience in System Safety Engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
- Extensive knowledge of MIL-STD-882E and other relevant safety standards
- Proven experience managing teams of 5 or more for complex advanced hardware programs
- Strong background in safety analysis techniques, including FTA, FHA, SCFTA, and FMECA
- Experience with safety-critical hardware & software systems in the defense or aerospace industry
- Strong analytical/problem-solving skills and excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
- Experience rapidly staffing and growing teams while ensuring clear direction and cohesion.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- M.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline
- 10+ years of experience in System Safety Engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
- Experience with environmental testing such as MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461
- Leading and managing a System Safety Engineering team and staffing the team rapidly in a complex tech environment
- Mentoring experience for System Safety artifact development (FHA, FTA, etc.)
- Aircraft, Spacecraft, or UAV operations experience
- Front End Software architecture & requirements definition experience.
- Customer communications, reporting, and roadmap presentation experience.
- Technical writing experience developing standards, specifications, user guides, and policies
- Experience drafting requirements for Software & Hardware
The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offer may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations.
