Senior Manager of External Relations

Astranis

Astranis

San Francisco, CA, USA
Posted 6+ months ago

Astranis is on a mission to bridge the digital divide by connecting the four billion people worldwide who currently lack internet access. We're doing this by building the next generation of smaller, more cost-effective spacecraft to bring the world online.

As a team, we’ve launched two satellites into orbit, signed ten commercial deals worth over $1 billion in revenue, raised over $500 million from top global investors, and recruited a team of over 300 world-class engineers. We all work out of our (legendary) San Francisco office, which was once used to build ships during the World Wars.

Our satellites, which operate from geostationary orbit (GEO), weigh only 400 kg and utilize a proprietary software-defined radio payload. Each satellite can connect over two million people, and we’re very excited for the impact we’ll soon have in the Philippines, Peru, Mexico, and more!

Backed by substantial funding and a passionate, collaborative team, we offer a rewarding work environment where you'll learn and make a significant impact, no matter where you are in your career.

Apply and join us on our journey towards global connectivity!

As a Senior Manager of External Relations at Astranis, you'll directly report to our Vice President of External Relations (and former Chief of Staff) and help out with a little bit of everything. If you are ready to work extremely hard, and know how to learn fast, make slides, and use shortcuts in Excel, you'll be a perfect fit.
The External Relations team includes international relations, government relations, marketing, PR, and regulatory affairs. Basically, it's our job to communicate externally to the company, and that comes with significant executive visibility, up to and including our CEO.
This role is perfect for someone who's ready to tackle challenges head-on, no matter the scale. We are looking for the superstars, the go-getters, the "I can do this" believers who are ready to dive into a range of impactful projects. If you’re the type who thrives in a vibrant, ever-evolving environment, if you're the person on the team that is always first to jump to action and can knock every project out of the park, if you are incredibly smart and high-energy, if you are the ultimate problem solver and never back away from a challenge, and if you’re hungry to learn and lead, we want to talk to you.

Role

  • Work on executive communications and messaging. This includes making slides, writing whitepapers, doing research, and more. You must know how to speak to any audience -- whether technical or business, from a recent grad to the head of a multi-national corporation.
  • Learn about the entire company. Nothing is beyond our scope, because we have to tell the world what the entire company is doing. If you want to someday be a founder, this will be great training.
  • Work across the entire range of tasks, from developing a keynote presentation for our CEO to tracking meeting minutes. You'll help me run the external relations team, and leadership comes with both glamorous and unglamorous work.
  • Systematize our work on the External Relations team, building processes and bringing structure to the madness.
  • Tag in to help the rest of the External Relations team on anything and everything. You'll go on international trips to film with the marketing team, meet foreign regulators, and more. You'll help us post on social media, and draft government relations whitepapers. Basically, you'll do anything and everything. Whatever it takes to succeed.

Requirements

  • 5+ years working in a role where you got to demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills and impactful results. This could be consulting, banking, running your own company, helping out at a startup, or really any other place that you made a huge difference.
  • Comfortable working in a busy, ever-changing environment and adept at bringing order to chaos with strategic foresight.
  • Strong reasoning and analytical abilities, coupled with creative resourcefulness to solve complex problems.
  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented, with a mastery of managing multiple, often competing priorities.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at once and prioritize accordingly, maintaining sharp focus to deliver on key objectives.
  • Strong communication skills, not just articulate but persuasive and capable of rallying teams behind your vision.
  • Available to work full-time in our San Francisco office, ready to be at the heart of operations where your influence will be felt strongest.
