Abiomed, Inc., a division of Johnson & Johnson Medtech, has an immediate opening for a legal specialist/attorney to join its growing global legal team. The selected individual will play a vital role supporting the global legal team and executing the legal team’s critical activities, including contract drafting/support, legal research/writing, and project management while bringing high energy and collaborative mindset. This position is on-site and is based in Danvers, MA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day to day support to the global legal team on matters including but not limited to integration activities between Abiomed and Johnson & Johnson, compliance matters, employment disputes, and contract interpretation
  • Provide legal support across multiple disciplines, including contracts, vendor and clinical trial agreements
  • Assist with review and approval of marketing materials as necessary
  • Assist with employment related matters as necessary
  • Perform legal research and writing for the global legal team using all available resources including Westlaw and Practical Law Connect
  • Work collaboratively with counsel and legal professional staff across the global legal & compliance to ensure agreements are negotiated in compliance with Abiomed policies and procedures and applicable laws
  • Identify and analyze key legal, compliance, regulatory, and business issues to effectively coordinate business terms with business partners with minimal guidance
  • Develop trusted relationships with cross-functional partners to increase collaboration and effectiveness
  • Support the long-term development of the legal function through process improvement and establishment of best practices for all aspects of legal operations
  • Work closely under supervision of responsible attorney, and exercise independent judgment in escalating issues within broadly defined practices and policies

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of combined experience in law firm or in-house legal department or JD with 3+ years with applicable work experience
  • Must be authorized to work in the US. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Strong writing, legal research, and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to summarize and communicate legal concepts in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to manage and prioritize a high-volume workload in a fast-paced working environment
  • Understanding of legal concepts, including their practical application in a business environment
  • Basic understanding of HIPAA and GDPR
  • Ability to balance an appropriate level of risk for achievement of Abiomed’s strategic objectives with protection of Abiomed’s legal interests
  • Ability to interact professionally and collaborate with all levels of management, multiple geographies, internal subject matter experts, stakeholders, and legal staff
  • Prior exposure to regulatory requirements governing clinical trials leading to approval or clearance of medical devices for commercial use is a plus
  • Self-motivator with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Team player with experience handling multiple demanding projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated experience working independently to identify, analyze, and solve problems.
  • Solid judgment, tact, and diplomacy skills in dealing with internal and external customers as well the ability to handle highly confidential and proprietary information
  • Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to respond to last-minute changes while maintaining poise and a positive “can do” attitude
