BioAge is a clinical-stage biotechnology company that is harnessing the biology of human aging to develop novel targets and therapies for metabolic diseases.

We are seeking an experienced Associate Scientist for a temporary position on an (approximately) 6 month assignment while an employee is on leave of absence. This position is onsite at our Richmond, CA office. As this is a bench scientist position, there is not an opportunity for hybrid or remote work for this role.

The Role: This assignment will focus on molecular and cellular biology, and will contribute to characterizing and validating targets associated with diseases of aging identified through our systems biology platform.

This role is expected to pay $55-$60 per hour, depending on experience. As a temporary employee, you would not be eligible for Company sponsored benefits with BioAge. You will be employed through our employment partner staffing agency, and assigned to BioAge. You may be eligible for benefits by the agency while assigned to BioAge. You would be eligible to apply for open full time positions if available any time.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Actively participate in the development, optimization, and execution of cell-based assays and biochemical experiments.
  • Manage the preparation and curation of biological samples, including blood, tissues, and cells from pre-clinical studies.
  • Cultivate mammalian cell lines and primary mammalian cells from multiple sources, providing guidance to junior staff as needed.
  • Effectively communicate study results and present data at group meetings and to external partners.
  • Conduct and oversee quality control and data assessment from external collaborations.
  • Lead in data organization and management within secure database platforms.
  • Develop, review, and refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Coordinate and oversee external research activities at CROs.
  • Participate in reagent and consumable inventory and ordering

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong technical skills in mammalian cell culture, ELISA, western blotting, RNA isolation/qPCR and luciferase assays is required. Hands-on experience with tissue processing, flow cytometry and IHC is a plus.
  • Previous experience in development of cell-based assays including independence in experiment design and execution preferred.
  • Analytical and proactive approach, capable of handling complex project aspects and proposing solutions in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and present experimental results both internally and to external collaborators.
  • Proficiency in Prism, Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Knowledge of data analysis platforms such as FlowJo and Image J is preferred.

Education and Qualifications:

  • BS or MS degree in molecular and cellular biology, immunology or related field with 6+ years of relevant laboratory experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry OR
  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in molecular and cellular biology, immunology or related field with 1+ years of relevant laboratory experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry

  • Aseptic Techniques: Proficient in maintaining sterile conditions when performing experiments, particularly in tissue culture and microbiological procedures to avoid contamination.
  • Laboratory Maintenance: Ability to manage and oversee the maintenance of a clean and organized laboratory setting, ensuring that all instruments and surfaces are sterilized and that consumables are properly stocked and disposed of following laboratory protocols.
