Caper at Instacart is dedicated to revolutionizing in-store shopping experience with smart carts. Our CV/AI team consists of skillful and enthusiastic researchers and engineers working on cutting-edge AI solutions that empower the intelligent features of Caper shopping carts. We are an international team, collaborating closely on exciting Computer Vision and AI projects.

Job Description:

We are seeking a talented and passionate AI/Computer Vision Engineer. As a key contributor to our AI R&D efforts, you will play a crucial role in designing and building robust computer vision algorithms and systems . The ideal candidate will have a deep knowledge of neural networks, machine learning and computer vision, as well as a passion for solving complex real-world engineering problems and creating market-leading products.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design, implement, and optimize deep learning models and computer vision algorithms to solve real-time visual perception problems, esp. In the areas of object detection, tracking and recognition.

2. Drive the end-to-end machine learning product lifecycle, including data collection, model design, training and deployment.

3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI/Computer Vision technologies into our products that influence millions of people across the globe.

4. Document and present research findings and development processes, as well as contribute to enhancing our IP portfolio.

5. Track the latest advancements in the relevant fields to ensure that our technologies remain cutting-edge.

Required Qualifications:

1. Advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with a focus on AI and Computer Vision.

Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in the design and deployment of AI models, particularly those in the areas of deep learning and computer vision.

2. Strong programming skills in Python, C++, or other relevant programming languages.

3. Experience with deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras etc.).

4. Proven track record of solving complex problems with real-world data.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, product-oriented and cross-functional environment.

5. Excellent communication skills and teamwork spirit.

Desirable Skills:

1. Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure etc.).

Experience of deploying AI solutions on mobile devices or embedded systems.

2. Publications or a strong portfolio of projects in computer vision or related fields.

3. Knowledge of GPU programming and optimization.

4. Experience with 3D computer vision and sensor fusion.
