Job Description:

The Senior Bioprocess Scientist and Training Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Massachusetts Training Center (MTC) including the teaching lab, applications lab, and the equipment demonstration area. The position will focus on establishing procedures, development of relevant curricula and manage workflow to serve the bioprocessing industry as it relates to Asahi Kasei Bioprocess (AKBA) products and services. The ideal candidate will have a talent for thinking creatively and critically with respect to application solutions that serve our customer’s projects and enhance customer loyalty.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and execute technology courses that promote the sale of AKB products and services, particularly around Planova Virus Removal Filters, BioOptimal MF-SL TFF filters, and technology used in bioprocessing applications
  • Design experiments to be conducted in the application lab to help support marketing and sales of AKB products as well as customer specific applications. Implements new test methods, instruments, and procedures; preparing proposals for customers; monitoring upstream and downstream equipment and assays
  • Lead the strategic planning of the MTC site to leverage site activity for customer acquisition, retention, and enhanced customer loyalty
  • Manage staff by communicating best laboratory practices, training, and coaching of new team members, and providing day-to-day supervision to meet goals and objectives laid out in yearly business plans

ADDITIONAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure compliance with all application regulations for a BSL-1 lab
  • Ensure that the physical plant and environmental conditions are appropriate for the testing performed and provide an environment safe from physical, chemical and biological hazards
  • Preparation and presentation of forecasts and budgets for MTC department expense budgets, capital expenses, and inventory management policies and approving monthly orders

MINIMUM/PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Master’s degree or higher in life-science-related field preferred, Bachelor’s degree in life-science related field with 10 plus years of experience can also be applicable
  • Experience: 3-5 years of laboratory management, including personnel, budget, and documentation for protocols
  • Preferred Experience: Leading teams in the biotech, bioprocess, or life science industry.
  • Valid driving license with good driving record
  • Knowledge: In depth knowledge of normal flow, tangential flow filtration, and purification techniques by liquid chromatography; prefer basic upstream cell culture techniques
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills are a must

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

  • 10% ability to travel as required by territory geography and company requirements.
  • Based in Chelmsford, MA

The base compensation range for this role is $150,000-$165,000. Base Compensation is influenced by many factors including, but not limited to: time in the role, previous experience, skills, knowledge, performance, work requirements, internal equity, and business / economic conditions.
