The Role
Associate Director/Director of IP. A dynamic and collaborative attorney with a strong legal and biological background, capable of navigating complex IP landscapes to protect our innovative discoveries. They will work across the organization to strategically shape and safeguard our IP portfolio, driving forward our mission to advance gene therapy breakthroughs.
How You Will Contribute
As Associate Director/Director of IP you will be responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of Dyno’s strategic IP portfolio by focusing on Dyno’s capsid and gene therapy-focused biologics innovations. You will support setting (in collaboration with Head of Legal) the IP strategy for Dyno’s capsid development efforts, executing on that strategy, and working directly with R&D and outside counsel for drafting and filing patent applications, while educating team members on IP issues.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the company’s global IP portfolio, including patents, trademarks, and trade secrets.
- Assist in the generation and implementation of a comprehensive intellectual property strategy that aligns with the company’s business objectives and innovation pipeline.
- Work with internal R&D teams and external patent counsel to prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications. Manage ongoing patent filings and ensure strategic alignment with business goals.
- Conduct IP diligence including patentability assessments and freedom-to-operate analyses.
- Conduct competitive IP landscape analysis and monitor trends to advise on opportunities and threats related to intellectual property.
- Assist with negotiation and management of IP licensing agreements, collaborations, and joint ventures related to intellectual property. Support technology transfers and licensing-out efforts.
- Provide internal training and awareness programs to educate staff on IP best practices, patent filing procedures, and IP compliance.
- Manage the intellectual property department’s budget, including legal fees, patent filings, and other related costs.

Basic qualifications
- J.D. from a major accredited law school and license to practice in at least one US jurisdiction.
- PhD in molecular or cellular biology or similar discipline.
- 5+ years’ prior experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications and conducting freedom to operate analyses in the biotech and/or pharmaceutical areas.
- Experience developing and implementing patent strategies with demonstrated success securing meaningful patent protection for products and technology platforms.
- Experience assessing IP concerns, identifying and managing IP risk and proactively managing outcomes with creative strategic planning.
- Ability to interface with scientists and lead patent prosecution.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in a biotechnology company or pharmaceutical company.
- Experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications covering biological sequences.
- Experience drafting and reviewing licensing agreements, material transfer agreements, and collaboration agreements.
- Previous work with analyzing large data sets.
