Sr. Electrical Engineer - Analog & Mixed Signal
Echodyne
Radar Reinvented.
Echodyne offers the world’s first compact solid-state true beam-steering radar for a wide range of industries and applications. Our high-performance radars work in all weather and are designed for autonomous vehicles, uncrewed aircraft & drones, and security of borders, critical infrastructure, and smart cities. The company combines the patented technology of metamaterials with powerful software to create a radar sensor with unprecedented performance at commercial price points. Echodyne offers its radars to companies working in Automotive, Transportation, Critical Infrastructure Protection, Border Security, Smart Cities, Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS), and Airspace Management including Urban Air Mobility (UTM).
Echodyne is seeking a senior electrical engineer with experience in mixed-signal electronics to join our team working in a fast-paced environment developing high-performance commercial radar solutions.
As a Sr. Electrical Engineer, you will play a key role in every phase of the product lifecycle (Definition, Exploration, Architecting, Design, Development, Verification, Production, and Sustainment). In each phase you will both contribute to and learn from challenging problems in circuit design related to state-of-the-art radar.
We are looking for someone to pull from their deep background in mixed signal circuit design to aid in the quick progression through the smallest assessments to the largest architecture trades for ground-breaking radars.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Development of analog and mixed signal circuits for commercial radars through concept, design, implementation, test, and verification
- Form design plans that capture the circuit development workflow for broad-reaching mixed signal architectures and designs spanning from power-entry to high-speed digital to user I/O to RF to SOC integration and collaborate with the team lead and other teams to refine and execute design activities
- Develop and execute complex trade studies to refine architectures required to support revised and emerging radar designs
- Work in a state-of-the-art electronics lab developing tests and bringing-up first-of-kind printed circuit assemblies on efforts including troubleshooting, reworking, and identifying opportunities for design refinement
- Champion design for manufacturability, assembly and test through every stage of the design process and launch manufacturing flows for designed circuits for transition to production in cohort with the manufacturing team
- Continually work on individual development (internal and external)
- Work with Team lead to understand the projects and programs at Echodyne and help identify opportunities for growth in your knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Become an integral part of the team through collaboration and mentoring
- Other related tasks required to fulfill the needs of the business
REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
- Experience in analog and mixed signal circuit theory and circuit development for high-reliability commercial or consumer products:
- Experience with the development and execution of Engineering Bring Up, Acceptance Test, and Design Verification of PCBs and an understanding of their use cases for successful delivery of PCBs to production
- Proficiency in the use of schematic capture tools to design circuits that include digital, analog, power supplies, and programmable devices
- Experience designing conductively cooled electronics and the application of circuit design implementations for solutions of heat dissipation in electronics
- Experience with parts selection and layout techniques for digital circuits and power supplies with the ability to trade off design constraints for efficiency, thermal, and signal integrity
- Experience with methodologies to improve quality and testability of printed circuit assemblies from prototype to production, such as “Design for X” or similar methodologies
- Experience implementing architectures and designs for:
- Prime power-entry, protection, conditioning and distribution
- User-facing physical interfaces including design for ESD protection and EMI/EMC
- Low speed signaling protocols (SPI, I2C)
- High-speed digital signals (MHz+ Clock Signals, DDR)
- FPGA and SOC integrations and multi-gigabit ethernet interfaces
- High-speed data converters (Gsps+ ADCs or DACs)
- Comfortable with a myriad of test methods and tools:
- Knowledge of Design-For-Test (DFT) best practices for dense PCBAs and ability to implement them throughout the design process
- Experience with Altium (or equivalent) for schematic capture and PCB layout
- Ability to Perform Spice simulations for new and existing circuit designs
- Experience troubleshooting and testing complex, multi subsystem designs using Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers, and Digital Multi-Meters
- Experience with the technical leadership of small teams of engineers working towards a common design goal
DESIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
(Looking for one or more as a complement to the core skills)
- Scientific coding skills, including MATLAB or Python (or equivalent) for scripting tests
- Experience designing circuits for low-frequency RF analog signaling (<3GHz) (Transitions, differential mode transmission lines, microstrip and stripline design)
- Working understanding of best practices for power and signal integrity design in PCBAs
QUALIFICATIONS
- BS or MS Degree in Engineering or Physics with 5-7 years experience
- Eligibility to handle export controlled data (ITAR, EAR)
Echodyne’s technology is export controlled by the U.S. Government and we must evaluate an applicant’s eligibility to handle export-controlled information or obtain required Government authorizations. Therefore, we will ask you as part of the application process to identify whether you are a U.S. Citizen or green card holder, or have asylum/refugee status in the U.S.
