The Elevator Pitch

Evolv is seeking a cutting-edge AI/ML Data Engineer to drive the development and growth of our AI/Chatbot platform for both internal and external customers. We are looking for a proactive self-starter with extensive expertise in data operations at scale, a deep understanding of AI, chatbots, and large language models (LLMs), and a strong commitment to continuously enhancing our machine learning data pipelines and infrastructure. Your innovative approach will be instrumental in delivering best-in-class AI solutions and optimizing our data processes to support impactful outcomes.

Success in the Role: What are performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

In the First 30 Days, You Will:

  • Participate in “EvolvED,” our week-long orientation program for all new employees.
  • Meet leadership and various teams, attending meetings to learn and understand relevant architecture and processes.
  • Become comfortable with our internal systems, processes, and people.
  • Join the AI Chatbot team, attending meetings, architecture discussions, and code reviews.

Within 3 Months, You Will:

  • Become a key contributing member of the AI Chatbot team, designing, and building AI/ML tools and applications for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Build relationships across the organization and identify ways to streamline data security and access.
  • Gain a general understanding of each team’s functions and develop contacts for information gathering.
  • Identify areas for improvement, removing bottlenecks and reducing friction in workflows.
  • Collaborate on cross-functional teams and projects, delivering best-in-class solutions.

By the End of the First Year, You Will:

  • Work cross-functionally between teams, aligning with Evolv’s analytics and insights vision.
  • Be recognized as a reliable resource for executing tasks efficiently or directing colleagues to the appropriate contacts.
  • Exhibit a can-do attitude, viewing challenges as opportunities to create solutions.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

AI/ML:

  • Design and implement data pipelines for text datasets, ensuring high-quality data for NLP and large language models (LLMs).
  • Build robust data processing streams for cleaning, normalizing, and modeling text data.
  • Drive the design, implementation, and scaling of pre/post-processing pipelines for machine learning models

Data Platforms & Frameworks:

  • Design and build data platforms for processing high volumes of real-time and batch data, facilitating collaboration across engineering teams.
  • Research and evaluate emerging technologies in the big data space, guiding continuous improvement efforts.
  • Produce well-engineered software with automated test suites and comprehensive documentation to support operational strategy.

Infrastructure Stability:

  • Ensure stability, performance, security, and reliability of our data infrastructure, leading initiatives that enhance system reliability and security compliance.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to conceptualize and implement data engineering initiatives that align with organizational goals.

Security & Compliance:

  • Collaborate with the Privacy and Security teams on data governance, risk, and compliance initiatives, ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with data classification and retention policies to uphold data integrity and security.

Technical Leadership:

  • Provide technical leadership in building data engineering pipelines for AI, demonstrating a consistent track record in managing complex data projects.
  • Leverage experience in developing data pipelines for conversational AI APIs and recommender systems to optimize our solutions.

Qualifications:

Experience: 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with proven expertise in AI/ML environments.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Python, Java, Bash, and SQL; strong experience with Git version control.
  • Significant experience with cloud platforms (AWS) and building data pipelines
  • Expertise in distributed systems, microservices, and big data technologies (e.g., Snowflake, Airflow, Kubernetes, Docker, Helm, Spark, PySpark).
  • Experience in building and maintaining reliable ETL pipelines and working with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., DynamoDB).

Soft Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration across multi-functional teams.

  • This role reports to our Director of Cloud Engineering in our R&D organization.

Where is the role located?

This role is based out of the HQ in Waltham, Massachusetts with flexibility in being hybrid remote.

What is the salary range?

The base salary range for this full-time position is $119,000 - $175,000 + bonus+ equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
