As an NDT Engineer at Impulse you will be responsible for developing, qualifying, and executing inspection methods to ensure the integrity of metallic and composite flight hardware. This role involves hands-on testing, method development, and working closely with design, manufacturing, and quality teams. The engineer will be a subject-matter expert in multiple NDT modalities and will support both R&D and production environments.

Responsibilities

  • Identify inspection methods that meet aerospace requirements for all Impulse Space hardware
  • Develop and implement internal capabilities for inspections of welds, COPVs, and other hardware requiring inspection
  • Drive design and manufacturing engineering to determine if internal or outsource inspection is necessary
  • Build and maintain a preferred supplier base for off-site and on-site inspection of our hardware when we do not have internal capability for a necessary inspection technique
  • Establish and maintain specifications, training documentation, and other requirements for operating a non-destructive testing program

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or related technical field
  • Must have an American Society for Non-destructive Testing (ASNT) level III certification in a relevant inspection method (radiographic, ultrasonic, eddy current, penetrant)
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience performing and developing NDT for aerospace, automotive, or nuclear applications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of aerospace materials and failure mechanisms (metals, composites, welds, additive manufacturing)

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Masters degree of PhD in Materials Science or related field
  • 5+ years of demonstrated direct experience with maintaining an NDT program on an aerospace flight program (spacecraft, satellite or launch vehicles)
  • ASNT level III certification in multiple relevant methods and specialized techniques (Phased-array ultrasonic and computed tomography)
  • Demonstrated experience specifically with AWS D17.1 Class A welds and AIAA S-081B Category 1 Pressure Vessels

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
