As a Infrastructure Engineer on the Test Software team at Impulse, you will play a critical role in designing, deploying, and maintaining the IT and networking infrastructure that supports our test sites. Working closely with IT, Test Engineering, Test Automation, Facilities, and external vendors, this role ensures reliable, deterministic, and scalable network infrastructure for test operations.
You will own IDF and MDF design, physical and logical network architecture, and time-synchronized networking to enable high-performance data acquisition, control systems, and distributed test environments across the company.

Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain IDF and MDF architectures for test sites, including rack layouts, structured cabling, fiber, power, labeling, and documentation.
- Plan and oversee physical network infrastructure, including wire runs, pathways, wall outlets, patch panels, and equipment placement in coordination with Facilities and contractors.
- Own test site network architecture and configuration, including Cisco switch configuration, VLANs, subnets, routing, and IP address management.
- Deploy and maintain time-sensitive networking for test systems, with familiarity in PTP, IEEE 1588, and IEEE 802.1AS.
- Support test operations by troubleshooting network, timing, and connectivity issues impacting data acquisition and control systems.
- Lead network infrastructure upgrades, expansions, and new test site bring-ups in coordination with internal teams and vendors.
- Create and maintain clear network diagrams, physical layouts, standards, and documentation for test environments.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related field.
- CCNA certification or equivalent professional experience with Cisco networking equipment.
- 5+ years of experience designing, configuring, and supporting network infrastructure in lab, industrial, or enterprise environments.
- Demonstrated understanding of network fundamentals, including VLANs, subnets, routing, switching, and firewalls.
- Experience with structured cabling systems, fiber optics, rack-based infrastructure, and physical network installations.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Clear communicator with strong technical documentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of infrastructure projects and work effectively cross-functionally.
- Experience in fast-paced startup environments.
- CCNP or CCIE Certification.
- Experience supporting test, lab, or industrial environments with real-time or high-availability requirements.
- Familiarity with time-synchronized systems and deterministic networking.
- Experience working with data acquisition systems, control networks, or embedded systems.
- Basic scripting or automation experience (e.g., Python or Bash) for validation, monitoring, or tooling.
Additional Information:
Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
