As a Senior Propulsion Component Engineer (Electromechanical) at Impulse, you will own all aspects of component design from concept to product realization, while working closely with a fast-paced, agile team that strives to make a high-performance spacecraft from a clean sheet design.

Responsibilities

  • Design propulsion system electromechanical components including linear and rotary actuators and motors
  • Perform integrated system trades on power systems, actuation rates, and force margins to arrive at optimal solution for flight vehicle
  • Own all aspects of component design from initial concepts to product realization
  • Generate detailed CAD models and manufacturing drawings
  • Perform fluid, thermal, and structural analysis as required
  • Establish assembly procedures and work hands-on with technicians to refine this process
  • Define and support rigorous component development and qualification testing
  • Resolve technical issues with innovative and resourceful solutions

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in high power density motor and/or actuator design
  • A strong understanding of electromechanical component design including: force/torque margin determination, materials and motor selection, wear, electronics, motor control and software/firmware interfaces.
  • Hands-on experience working with fluid, electrical and mechanical systems
  • Demonstrated proficiency in CAD software with ability to learn new tools
  • Demonstrated ability in requirements definition, conceptual design, procurement, fabrication, assembly and testing of hardware

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience designing and operating high reliability, high performance hardware
  • Experience with high-power density and vacuum-rated components
  • Experience in a startup or agile development environment
  • Strong project management skills and effective communication of technical concepts across multi-disciplinary teams

  • Flexible schedule and willing to travel as needed

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
