As an IT Systems Engineer at Impulse, you are responsible for designing, implementing, and improving infrastructure platforms that support engineering, manufacturing, and corporate operations. This role focuses on building reliable, scalable systems across hybrid datacenter and cloud environments while reducing operational overhead through automation and strong engineering practices.
Systems Engineers translate organizational requirements into technical solutions and are expected to independently deliver infrastructure projects, improve platform reliability, and establish repeatable deployment patterns. The role emphasizes hands-on engineering combined with operational awareness in environments where infrastructure performance directly impacts engineering execution and production timelines.

Responsibilities
Infrastructure Design & Implementation
- Design and deploy infrastructure solutions across compute, identity, storage, and cloud platforms.
- Implement new services and expand existing environments to support organizational growth.
- Engineer highly available systems aligned with established architectural standards.
- Lead infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and modernization initiatives.
- Validate performance, resiliency, and operational readiness of deployed systems.
Platform Engineering
- Build and maintain standardized infrastructure configurations.
- Develop repeatable deployment methodologies for servers and platform services.
- Improve scalability and consistency across environments.
- Integrate on-premises infrastructure with cloud services and identity platforms.
- Support lifecycle planning and platform evolution.
Automation & Infrastructure Engineering
- Develop automation for provisioning, configuration, and maintenance workflows.
- Implement scripting and tooling to eliminate manual operational processes.
- Contribute to infrastructure-as-code and configuration management initiatives.
- Improve deployment speed and reliability through automation practices.
Automation is considered a core engineering responsibility at this level.
Reliability & Advanced Troubleshooting
- Resolve complex infrastructure issues spanning multiple systems and dependencies.
- Perform deep root-cause analysis for recurring or high-impact incidents.
- Design improvements that prevent future operational failures.
- Collaborate with network and security teams during incident resolution.
Security & Compliance Integration
- Engineer infrastructure aligned with cybersecurity and regulatory requirements.
- Implement secure identity, access control, and system hardening practices.
- Support compliance initiatives through technical design and system configuration.
- Ensure infrastructure solutions support controlled or regulated data environments.
Cross-Team Collaboration
- Partner with engineering teams to understand infrastructure requirements.
- Support deployment of systems used in engineering and operational environments.
- Work closely with network engineering, security, and service delivery teams.
- Provide technical mentorship to administrators and junior engineers.
Technology Environment (Representative)
Infrastructure environments supported by this role include technologies such as:
- Microsoft Windows Server
- Linux systems administration
- VMware vSphere or equivalent enterprise virtualization platforms
- Microsoft Azure and Entra ID
- Active Directory and Group Policy
- Microsoft Intune or modern endpoint management
- NetApp storage platforms
- Enterprise backup solutions (e.g., Veeam or equivalent)
- PowerShell and automation tooling
- Hybrid datacenter and cloud infrastructure supporting engineering and operational environments
Strong systems engineering fundamentals are prioritized over single-vendor specialization.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience supporting and implementing enterprise infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience designing and deploying infrastructure solutions.
- Strong Windows Server administration and architecture knowledge.
- Experience administering Linux systems.
- Experience operating virtualization platforms in production environments.
- Experience automating infrastructure tasks using scripting (PowerShell, Bash, or Python).
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Strong troubleshooting skills across integrated systems and services.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals and infrastructure dependencies.
- Experience supporting engineering, manufacturing, or lab environments.
- Hybrid cloud deployment and identity integration experience.
- Experience with enterprise storage architecture.
- Familiarity with configuration management or infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Experience operating in regulated or compliance-driven environments.
Operational Expectations
- Participation in on-call rotation supporting infrastructure services.
- Ability to support infrastructure deployments during maintenance or operational windows.
- Work performed in datacenter, lab, and operational environments as required.
- Ownership of infrastructure projects from planning through implementation.
Additional Information:
Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
