As a Senior IT Systems Engineer at Impulse, you will be responsible for leading the design, evolution, and reliability of enterprise infrastructure platforms supporting engineering, manufacturing, and corporate operations. This role serves as a senior technical authority within the systems organization, driving infrastructure architecture decisions, guiding platform direction, and delivering complex engineering initiatives across hybrid datacenter and cloud environments.
Senior Systems Engineers operate with a high degree of autonomy and are expected to translate business and engineering requirements into scalable technical solutions. The role combines deep hands-on engineering with technical leadership, ensuring infrastructure platforms remain resilient, secure, and capable of supporting rapid organizational growth.

Responsibilities
Infrastructure Architecture & Design
- Design and lead implementation of complex infrastructure solutions across compute, identity, storage, and cloud platforms.
- Define technical approaches for major infrastructure initiatives and modernization efforts.
- Engineer highly available, scalable systems aligned with organizational standards.
- Evaluate infrastructure performance, resiliency, and long-term scalability requirements.
- Lead architectural design reviews for infrastructure changes and deployments.
Technology Evaluation & Platform Selection
- Evaluate new infrastructure technologies, platforms, and vendors.
- Recommend platform adoption aligned with operational, security, and scalability requirements.
- Establish technical standards and approved implementation patterns.
- Balance operational simplicity, reliability, and long-term maintainability in design decisions.
Technology selection authority begins at this level under broader architectural guidance.
Advanced Platform Engineering
- Lead engineering efforts involving hybrid cloud integration and identity architecture.
- Design standardized infrastructure patterns used across environments.
- Drive improvements in provisioning, deployment, and lifecycle management.
- Reduce operational complexity through engineering-driven solutions.
Automation & Engineering Maturity
- Design automation frameworks supporting infrastructure deployment and maintenance.
- Promote infrastructure-as-code and configuration-driven operations.
- Establish automation standards used across the systems organization.
- Mentor engineers in automation and engineering best practices.
Reliability & Incident Leadership
- Lead resolution of high-impact or complex infrastructure incidents.
- Perform deep technical analysis across integrated systems and services.
- Drive systemic improvements that increase reliability and reduce operational risk.
- Establish preventative engineering practices based on operational data.
Security & Compliance Engineering
- Ensure infrastructure architectures align with cybersecurity and regulatory requirements.
- Integrate secure identity, access control, and system hardening into platform designs.
- Partner with security and compliance teams to support regulated environments.
- Design infrastructure capable of supporting controlled data workloads.
Technical Leadership & Mentorship
- Provide technical direction to Systems Engineers and Administrators.
- Act as technical lead on major infrastructure projects.
- Mentor team members and elevate engineering standards.
- Collaborate closely with network engineering, security, and application teams.
This role provides technical leadership without formal people management responsibility.
Technology Environment (Representative)
Infrastructure environments supported by this role include technologies such as:
- Microsoft Windows Server
- Linux enterprise systems
- VMware vSphere or equivalent enterprise virtualization platforms
- Microsoft Azure and Entra ID
- Active Directory and Group Policy architecture
- Microsoft Intune or modern endpoint management platforms
- NetApp storage platforms
- Enterprise backup solutions (e.g., Veeam or equivalent)
- PowerShell and infrastructure automation tooling
- Hybrid datacenter and cloud infrastructure supporting engineering and operational environments
Broad architectural understanding across platforms is expected.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years experience designing and operating enterprise infrastructure environments.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex infrastructure implementations.
- Demonstrated expertise in Windows Server architecture.
- Experience working with Linux systems.
- Experience with virtualization and hybrid infrastructure.
- Automation and scripting experience (PowerShell required).
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Proven ability to design scalable and resilient infrastructure solutions.
- Strong cross-domain troubleshooting capability.
- Experience supporting engineering, manufacturing, or operational technology environments.
- Experience designing hybrid cloud architectures.
- Enterprise storage and data platform design experience.
- Experience working within regulated or compliance-driven environments.
- Prior experience mentoring engineers or serving as technical lead.
Operational Expectations
- Participation in senior escalation and on-call rotation.
- Leadership during critical operational or deployment events.
- Work performed within datacenter, lab, and operational environments as required.
- Ownership of large-scale infrastructure initiatives from design through implementation.

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity.
