Description
Kela is a defense technology startup pioneering next-generation command & control and data infrastructure systems. We empower defense organizations with robust, scalable, and secure platforms that integrate diverse sensors and AI to deliver real-time battlefield intelligence. Backed by leading investors, Kela combines Israeli innovation with global mission impact.
As a Lead Mechanical Engineer - Tactical Munitions, you will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining the physical architecture and aerodynamics that power our innovative solutions. Specifically, you will be a key driver on a new electrical tactical munition project. Working closely with the system and operations teams, you will guide this product from its early 3D-printed R&D phases through to mass manufacturing, ensuring it meets strict weight, stress, and environmental requirements.
Responsibilities:
· Drive the mechanical architecture and CAD design for an ultra-lightweight munition (< 3kg) and a reusable launcher (< 1kg) through rapid prototyping.
· Lead the tight packaging of electronics, batteries, and the warhead inside a highly constrained cylindrical space.
· Analyze and manage structural loads, ensuring the platform withstands high G-forces during tube-launch and rapid 100m/s+ flight.
· Lead the "Design for Production" (DFM) phase, transitioning prototypes to mass-manufacturable plastics, composites, and aluminum.
· Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the mechanical design meets rigorous military environmental standards (shock, vibration, water sealing).
· Support and oversee the transition of the mechanical design from prototype phases into mass production.
Requirements
· 5+ years of experience in mechanical design or aero-mechanics.
· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
· Deep knowledge of structural analysis, aerodynamics, and packaging for ruggedized military or aerospace electronics.
· Proven experience leading complex mechanical systems through rapid prototyping, NPI, and DFM processes.
· Experience scaling a product from prototype to mass production - a strong advantage.
· Familiarity with the mechanical constraints of UAVs or loitering munitions - a strong advantage.
