Senior Bioinformatics Engineer

At LatchBio, we're building AI agents that help 4,000+ scientists analyze and interpret data from the next generation of spatial and multi-omic tools in biotech.

We are seeking a senior bioinformatics engineer with exceptional computational depth — someone whose foundation is in CS, math, or statistics and who has developed strong biological fluency over time. In this role, you'll both do the work yourself and set the quality standard for others: reviewing analyses, catching errors, and ensuring every deliverable is defensible.

What you'll do

  • Own end-to-end biological data analyses across multiple projects: raw platform outputs → QC and failure diagnosis → dimensionality reduction → cell typing → DE/enrichment → defended biological claim.

  • QC and review the work of other bioinformatics engineers: catch analytical errors, validate conclusions, and ensure every notebook and decision log meets gold-standard quality.

  • Build reproducible workflows and produce clear decision traces: what was filtered, why, what changed the conclusion, what would falsify the claim.

  • Design and ship computational tools or packages that accelerate analysis across the team.

Requirements (must-have)

  • Strong foundation in algorithms for high-dimensional data analysis (e.g. PCA, UMAP, neighborhood graphs, spectral methods) with understanding of when and why each is appropriate.

  • Working understanding of statistical inference: hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, estimators, and multiple testing correction.

  • Published or shipped computational tools or packages used by others (open-source libraries, internal platforms, or production pipelines).

  • Analyzed 3+ datasets from raw data to end insight for either publications or industry experiments with real-world consequences.

  • Familiarity with the landscape of computational biology tools for common analysis tasks (e.g. clustering, cell typing, differential expression, enrichment).

Desired experience (nice-to-have)

  • Experience with end-to-end spatial transcriptomics analysis for one or more of the following technologies: Seeker or Trekker (Slide-seq), MERFISH, DBiT-seq, Xenium, Visium, Stereo-seq, GeoMx, CosMx, or similar assays.

  • Spatial reasoning beyond standard clustering: neighborhood and adjacency enrichment, spatial gradients and niches, spatial DE, and spatial autocorrelation-aware analyses.

  • Working understanding of kit-specific quality control thresholds and intuition for numerical examples of positive or negative results (e.g. 100K cells from 10X Chromium means something is wrong).

  • Experience generating training data for AI agents or foundation models.

Ideal candidate

You are an engineer first and a biologist second. You have a CS, math, or statistics background and developed deep biological fluency through years of applied work. You're comfortable being wrong, updating beliefs with evidence, and writing down decisions so others can reproduce and critique your work. You communicate clearly, take ownership of end-to-end solutions, and set the bar for rigor on the team.

Compensation & benefits
