Rigetti Computing is building the world’s most powerful computers to solve humanity’s most pressing problems. We believe this technology will fundamentally change the world for the better and will affect nearly every industry over the coming decades. Now a public company, Rigetti is looking to expand its Engineering Operations team through the addition of an experienced Cryogenic RF Technician.
As a Microwave and Cryogenics Technician at our Oxford, UK quantum computing R&D facility, you will work alongside a team of physicists and engineers to support the development of cutting-edge quantum computing technologies. Your responsibilities will include assembling and testing advanced RF structures, operating and debugging cryogenic systems, developing and maintaining best practices and standard operating procedures, and technical troubleshooting. You will utilize advanced electronics testing equipment to characterize custom RF hardware in partnership with engineers from multiple disciplines, and you will play a key role in advancing Rigetti’s best practices around quantum hardware testing and deployment.
The ideal candidate will have performed a hands-on function with interdisciplinary advanced technology teams at industry-leading companies, academic labs, or similar.
What You'll Be Doing
- Assemble, validate and install complex electro-mechanical, and RF systems with superb attention to detail.
- Understand and follow wiring diagrams, solder and debug RF components.
- Troubleshoot, service and maintain cryogenic equipment (scroll pumps, turbo pumps, cryo compressors, high vacuum valves/cold traps) including helium leak test procedures, pump rebuilds, and thermal system debugging
- Perform validation testing on advanced RF components using electronic equipment such as network analyzers, DMMs, and custom tools developed in-house
- Support cryogenic systems on-call in rotation with other members of the Engineering Operations team
- Prepare and install quantum chip assemblies for testingFollow established documents/procedures and create them as needed
- Read and understand CAD drawings and engineering specificationsPerform equipment maintenance, following standard procedures
What You Bring to the Table
- Apprenticeship in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent education, plus 1-5 years job experience, ideally in a high-tech R&D environment
- Understanding of materials and techniques at mK temperatures
- Ability to use a variety of general purpose electronic test equipment (oscilloscope, network analyser, multimeter, dc power supplies, etc.)
- Experience assembling, servicing and maintaining scientific instruments and/or complex electro-mechanical assemblies
- Excellent troubleshooting skills
- Experience working with and maintaining large equipment of high availability systems
- Meticulous attention to detail in assembly and validation
- Excellent communication and troubleshooting skills
- Experience with dilution refrigerators or other cryogenic systems a strong plus
As engineering leaders, we value diversity and are committed to building a culture of inclusion to attract and engage innovative thinkers. Our technology, meant to serve all of humanity, cannot succeed if those who built it do not mirror the diversity of the communities we serve. Applications from women, minorities, and other under-represented groups are encouraged.
