As an Electrical Engineer on Rigetti’s Control Systems team you will design, develop, test, and deploy hardware that generates microwave pulses controlling and reading the qubits in our quantum computer. You’ll be working closely with other teams with different backgrounds including embedded software engineers, mechanical engineers, and physicists. We want you to bring your previous experience and deepen our team’s understanding of digital board design, including experience specifying and designing critical circuit components such as low-noise power supply rails, precise clock distribution, and high-speed transceivers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal and external team members to design and develop control systems architecture requirement for quantum computing applications, ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Conduct system modeling, simulation, and analysis to evaluate control algorithms and system performance.
  • Capture circuit board schematic and layout for designs containing digital, analog, and RF components
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, software engineers, and project managers, to integrate control systems into overall project designs.
  • Develop, implement, and test control algorithms using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or C/C++.Perform hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing to validate control system functionality and performance.
  • Troubleshoot and debug control systems, identifying and resolving issues in a timely manner.
  • Provide technical support during system integration, commissioning, and field testing activities.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in control systems engineering, and apply them to enhance project outcomes.
  • Document system designs, specifications, test procedures, and results according to company standards and industry regulations.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in startups or dynamic work environments
  • BS or MS degree in EE, or equivalent, with 5+ years experience
  • Ability to operate standard lab equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and VNAs)
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to interact across different disciplines
  • Demonstrated success taking designs from conception through the full design cycle, including manufacturing and test

Preferred Additional Qualifiications

  • Experience with analog design and simulation (SPICE or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of signal processing concepts: Nyquist zones, convolution, cross-correlation, numerically-controlled oscillators
  • Ability to work on a team and to jump in and help get projects over the finish line
  • Exposure to Verilog/VHDL and digital hardware design and FPGA development
  • Familiarity with Python scripting (especially scientific Python libraries like numpy and scipy)
  • Understanding of RF design and test
As engineering leaders, we value diversity and are committed to building a culture of inclusion to attract and engage innovative thinkers. Our technology, meant to serve all of humanity, cannot succeed if those who built it do not mirror the diversity of the communities we serve. Applications from women, minorities, and other under-represented groups are encouraged.
