The Medical Director is the clinical backbone of Summer Health. You'll work directly with the leadership team to shape clinical strategy, drive quality across our provider network, represent our medical practice publicly, and ensure our product is built on rigorous science.

This is a full-time, highly visible role. You'll be the face of Summer Health's medical practice - externally, with health systems, payers, and media; and internally, as the voice patients and providers need at the table.

What We're Looking For

Regardless of background, the people we bring onto our advisory board share a few things in common:

  • 📚 A steward of science. You stay current with the latest pediatric research and hold yourself to a genuine evidence-based standard - you're the person in the room who says "actually, the data on that shifted last year."

  • 🌐 A true believer that technology can democratize healthcare. You believe digital-first care, done right, can bring world-class medicine to every family - regardless of zip code or income.

  • ❤️ Deeply focused on the gaps in pediatric care. You are not satisfied with the status quo of how kids receive healthcare, and think there is more to be done.

  • 🔬 An advocate of prevention and precision. You think more personalized information and more time with patients leads to better outcomes - and you're excited by what's possible when we give families the tools to be proactive, not just reactive.

Who You Might Be

There is no single background or profile who fits this description. Here are some examples - if any of these sound like you, please reach out.

  • You're a Medical Director at a digital health company who has written the protocols, sat in the sprint reviews, and pushed back when the roadmap didn't serve patients. You want the seat where clinical judgment actually shapes the product, not just informs it.

  • You're a recent residency graduate who already knows the traditional path isn't for you. You have sharp instincts, genuine intellectual hunger, and no interest in doing things the way they've always been done.

  • You have an MD and a consulting or operating background - you went to medical school, practiced, and got drawn to the strategy layer, and now you want a role where both sides are equally valued.

  • You're a practicing pediatrician who has been quietly frustrated for years and has been waiting for a place that would let you build what you know is possible.

What You'll Own

  • Set the clinical standard. Define and uphold clinical protocols, care guidelines, and quality standards across the platform, ensuring clarity on what conditions we do and do not treat.

  • Stay at the frontier. Keep current with evolving pediatric science and translate new evidence into updated care practices

  • Raise the bar for providers. Lead recruitment, vetting, and hiring of providers , and give direct, constructive feedback to continuously elevate the quality of care delivery

  • Be the voice of providers. Ensure their perspective shapes decisions at every level of the business

  • Lead externally. Act as a key opinion leader and public spokesperson across media, industry events, and partner conversations

  • Build partnerships. Support relationships with health plans, payers, and health system partners

  • Shape the product. Partner with product and engineering to embed clinical rigor into the roadmap from day one, translating clinical realities into requirements and workflows

Qualifications

Required

  • MD or DO; board-certified in pediatrics, adolescent medicine or family medicine

  • Active or recent clinical practice - you're grounded in what real patient care looks like today

  • Deeply familiar with the most recent pediatric clinical protocols and testing (e.g., biomarker testing, genetic testing, behavioral screening)

  • Highly responsive, proactive, and organized - a driver who raises the floor and the ceiling of a clinical organization

Ideal

  • 3-5 years of corporate or business experience - you understand how healthcare organizations operate and how to influence them

  • Experience with health plan relationships, payer contracting, or business development

  • Track record as a public spokesperson, key opinion leader, or contributor to industry media

  • Demonstrated experience building or advising healthcare technology companies

Compensation

$200k-$300k; Meaningful equity in the business
