About the Role

Whisper Aero is in need of a dynamic person capable of growing our manufacturing capacity from small batch sizes into a fully functioning production line shipping 100s and then 1000s of units per year. They will be responsible for bringing these issues to the attention of the correct parties and suggesting solutions when possible. The candidate will be responsible for acting as the manufacturing voice to the engineering team during design review. He/she will also author work instructions, document processes, implement standardization efforts, design tooling, improve process efficiency and much more.
The successful candidate will be someone who is comfortable both working with their hands as well as working at a computer. They will excel at process optimization and be eager to ask questions, building new insights into how things work.

What You’ll Do

Plan builds for prototypes using a variety of manufacturing methods
Author build instructions
Work with the design team and the shop floor to resolve non-conformances
Work with design team to implement DFM as early as conceptual design
Implement process improvements to continually improve Whisper’s manufacturing capabilities
Guide and work alongside technicians to build prototype hardware
Design and build tooling for prototype and production applications
Manage both internal and external projects

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering (or equivalent) and at least 3 years of related work experience
Demonstrated experience successfully managing manufacturing projects with external companies
Demonstrated hands on experience with at least one of the following processes: manual or CNC machining, composites, 3D printing, prototyping, mechanical assembly, electronics assembly, injection molding
Demonstrated experience implementing process improvements and measuring their effectiveness
Expert level CAD software skills (SolidWorks preferred)
Experience with basic inspection tools (caliper, micrometer, dial gauge, …)
Experience managing the time and tasks of technicians
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Bonus Qualifications

AS9100 os ISO9001 experience
Experience with modern inspection equipment (3D scanners, laser measurement, non-contact measurement methods, CMMs, ...)
Six Sigma Black Belt certified
Pilot experience and/or aircraft maintenance experience
Demonstrated experience of mechanical analysis (hand calcs, software, or other)
Experience with CAM or other machine programming tools
Electronics experience
