We are looking for engineers who are passionate about pushing filesystems to their limits. As a Senior Software Core Filesystem Engineer, you will work to analyze various filesystems, their benefits, and their risks by developing an analytical framework to assess candidate filesystems. Filesystems will be scored on features including, but not limited to, power loss protection, disk power consumption, write performance, sector wear, and data fragmentation.

In this role, you will:

  • Root cause filesystem corruption issues in the AV environment
  • Create tests to reproduce the issues, and run those tests against candidate filesystems.
  • Develop kernel/driver patches to enhance the functionality of existing filesystems and should be comfortable with the Linux kernel.
  • Building metrics to track filesystem performance/integrity.
  • Work with our hardware and safety teams to define SLAs around the expected corruption rate for data across our fleet.


  • 7+ years of industry experience working on large code bases
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++
  • Filesystem experience (EXT4, ZFS, XFS, BTRFS, FSFS, YAFFS, PowerSafe FS, etc)
  • Experience with Linux kernel and systems programming
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, mathematics, or related field

  • Petabyte-level data management
  • Kernel programming experience
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $164,000 to $265,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
