Zoox has embarked on a highly ambitious journey to develop an autonomous mobility solution built from the ground up. Within the Fleet Operations organization, Vehicle Operations supports the testing and validation of SW and HW on our fleet of autonomous robots and service operations on public roads. As our Vehicle Operations team develops and scales, so does the challenge of understanding operations data, ensuring effective communication between development and operations, and informing key decisions to scale the organization successfully.
In this role, you will lead L3 Zoox Vehicle Operations, with a data-driven and operational mindset, for the testing and validation efforts using our R&D Fleet of L3 test vehicles. You will also be an integral part of the Fleet Operations leadership team. This will include managing Vehicle Operations FTEs and Contractors while identifying, building, and driving safety and efficiency processes related to overall vehicle operations for our robotaxi robots.
In this role, you will
- Manage, hire, and train high-caliber Vehicle Operations personnel and facilitate their career growth within Fleet Operations.
- Manage the execution of the L3 test vehicle fleet, focusing on operational efficiency by making data-driven, impactful decisions.
- Work with other managers, the program management team within Fleet Operations, and other cross-functional teams to provide vehicle support across all areas of test and validation managed from the HQ. These include permanent deployments around the Bay Area and shorter-term & longer-term deployment development across the US.
- Drive an excellent safety culture by leading safe and efficient operations.
- Lead feedback to cross-functional teams to improve SW, system design, and safety processes while tracking tasks to completion and ensure a communication feedback loop.
- Support cross-functional engagements at all Zoox locations, including PMO, Policy, Legal, Infrastructure, and other discussions and decision-making. This includes briefing at the executive level, up to and including the CEO and CTO.
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree
- 10+ years leading the business side of relevant large-scale operations
- 8+ years of managing large teams across multiple locations
- Management of continuous safety standards and improvement initiatives
- Experience in change management processes
- Comfortability with travel to current operational cities and new city expansions (~30% per year)
Bonus Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant discipline (Business Administration, Engineering, Computer Science, Program Management, etc.)
- 6+ years working in an NPI environment and cross-functionally with PMO or engineering organizations
- Working with cross-functional teams on go-to-market initiatives
- Experience in the autonomous vehicle, transportation dispatch, and emergency response industries
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $164,000 to $246,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
