The Advanced Manufacturing Company of America (Amca) is renewing the entrepreneurial spirit and engineering legacy of the aerospace and defense industry’s golden age. To do this, we develop and manufacture products that both existing and new primes cannot exist without.

Role overview:

Amca's Design Engineer will improve legacy aerospace and defense products and systems for higher performance, working directly with customers to fulfill mission-critical requirements.

Responsibilities:

  1. Own customer engineering relationships

    1. Build deep technical relationships with prime and Tier 1 chief engineers and fellows

    2. Master system architectures across platforms, from avionics to propulsion

    3. Drive requirements decomposition from mission needs to component specifications

    4. Run rapid design iterations with customer engineering teams

    5. Pioneer joint development programs in areas with untested but promising theoretical performance

    6. Lead integration efforts of redesigned components into end system

  2. Drive new component development

    1. Own technical strategy for portfolio of acquired components and associated IP

    2. Define future component performance envelopes and guide future acquisitions based on results

    3. Run multi-variable optimization and trade studies across mass, thermal, structural, and cost constraints for component re-design

    4. Design and implement automated test infrastructure for rapid prototyping and validation

  3. Lead systems architecture and integration

    1. Lead clean-sheet design and test of subsystems and systems spanning mechanical, electrical, and aerospace engineering

    2. Architect and execute comprehensive test campaigns from component to system level

    3. Drive physics-based modeling and simulation across thermal, structural, and dynamic domains

    4. Tackle thorny integration challenges requiring novel technical approaches

    5. Push system boundaries through selection of new materials and unproven technologies

Qualifications:

  • A track record of using first principles to question and understand requirements

  • Experience solving mechanical, electrical, and aerospace engineering problems, demonstrated through successful product development

  • Proven ability to work with and influence customer engineering organizations at large customers (government, primes, and/or Tier 1s)

  • Strong background in system architecture and integration across multiple aerospace domains

  • Experience driving technical strategy and engineering process improvements

  • Hands-on experience with advanced modeling, simulation, and test methodologies

  • Plus: contributed meaningfully to or led systems development at strong aerospace or defense companies
