Role overview:
Amca's Design Engineer will improve legacy aerospace and defense products and systems for higher performance, working directly with customers to fulfill mission-critical requirements.
Responsibilities:

Own customer engineering relationships
Build deep technical relationships with prime and Tier 1 chief engineers and fellows
Master system architectures across platforms, from avionics to propulsion
Drive requirements decomposition from mission needs to component specifications
Run rapid design iterations with customer engineering teams
Pioneer joint development programs in areas with untested but promising theoretical performance
Lead integration efforts of redesigned components into end system

Drive new component development
Own technical strategy for portfolio of acquired components and associated IP
Define future component performance envelopes and guide future acquisitions based on results
Run multi-variable optimization and trade studies across mass, thermal, structural, and cost constraints for component re-design
Design and implement automated test infrastructure for rapid prototyping and validation

Lead systems architecture and integration
Lead clean-sheet design and test of subsystems and systems spanning mechanical, electrical, and aerospace engineering
Architect and execute comprehensive test campaigns from component to system level
Drive physics-based modeling and simulation across thermal, structural, and dynamic domains
Tackle thorny integration challenges requiring novel technical approaches
Push system boundaries through selection of new materials and unproven technologies
Qualifications:
A track record of using first principles to question and understand requirements
Experience solving mechanical, electrical, and aerospace engineering problems, demonstrated through successful product development
Proven ability to work with and influence customer engineering organizations at large customers (government, primes, and/or Tier 1s)
Strong background in system architecture and integration across multiple aerospace domains
Experience driving technical strategy and engineering process improvements
Hands-on experience with advanced modeling, simulation, and test methodologies
Plus: contributed meaningfully to or led systems development at strong aerospace or defense companies
