Software Engineer
Amca
The Advanced Manufacturing Company of America (“Amca”) is reconfiguring how aerospace and defense builds. We design, manufacture, and deliver the next generation of mission-critical hardware to accelerate throughput and performance of the most important systems on Earth.
Role overview
Amca’s first software engineer will design and implement software to reduce cost and lead time for every aspect of Amca and its acquired companies’ operations, including design, prototyping, manufacturing, testing, and back-office functions.
Responsibilities:
Design and implement custom software solutions that achieve cost and lead time reduction across all areas of Amca’s business. Example functional areas and potential projects include (not exhaustive):
-
Engineering
Play a role in selecting, implementing, and if needed, creating the tools engineers use to design new products, reverse engineer competitor products, and re-design existing products, including if relevant, auto-generating drawings and automating repetitive CAD tasks
Stand up a system for engineering design data storage to ensure Amca can be best in class at new product design
Develop and implement systems to help catalog and organize requirement data across our entire product catalog
Be a technical lead in setting Amca’s system approach to design technology, including for example creating and implementing engineering change management systems
-
Manufacturing
Create and implement systems to collect and analyze productivity data, quality metrics, test results, unit cost data, and other operational metrics
Visualize data via dashboards to drive actionable insights to improve operations
Streamline integration of operational data from manufacturing subsidiaries into Amca, in a way that delivers clear and standardized analytics across our portfolio companies
Assist with ERP/MRP system selection, customization, and implementation at subsidiary companies
-
Prototyping
Work with the engineering team to develop and implement software to speed up prototyping at our in-house fabrication shop, including indexing and organizing past prototype jobs allowing for part and design re-use, linking prototypes to design requirements, and integrating simple DFM checks into our design process
Work with in-house prototyping resources to streamline low volume prototyping operations, including for example automating the creation of part specific inspection sheets
-
Testing
Develop and implement systems to collect, store, and analyze test data from our in-house test facility
Develop software to support test automation for in-process functional checks
-
Back-office operations
Work with purchasing and inventory control teams to develop software solutions for inventory management, demand planning, and purchasing
Develop software solutions to automate as many aspects of purchasing and logistics as practical, including purchase order creation, compliance report creation, generation of export paperwork, and tracking of inbound/outbound shipments
Develop and implement systems to streamline financial data collection and reporting from portfolio companies
Develop and implement systems to streamline sales processes and customer interactions, including quote generation, development of budgetary cost estimates, and providing real-time status updates to customers regarding their orders
