Amca is building airplanes for the 21st century, starting by designing new hardware that flies on today’s planes. Aviation was once humanity’s boldest ambition, but the industry hasn’t successfully built a new plane in 40 years. We don’t think it has to be this way.
Overview:
You will lead Amca's electrical engineering team. Your primary function will be to take electrical products from concept to flight qualification and expand Amca's product catalog by designing new aerospace hardware. You will lead build and test engineers to bring products to life. As a senior engineer at an early startup, you will also be responsible for setting up Amca's design processes for the future.
Responsibilities:
-
Lead Amca's electrical engineering team
Take full ownership of Amca's team of electrical engineers, driving forward projects, goals, and timelines
-
Lead electrical design and testing at our subsidiary companies
Manage, direct, and advance all electrical engineering at our subsidiaries specifically across film capacitors, RC networks, EMI filters, and transformer engineering projects
Assist with full cycling EE recruiting: determining headcount, reviewing and interviewing candidates, and actively managing the team
-
Own design and prototyping of new electrical hardware.
Work with customers to understand end-use applications and challenge requirements as needed
Take full ownership of electrical design for flight hardware, including electrical schematic creation, electrical analysis, component selection, de-rating, and PCBA layout
Own the prototype and bring-up of early revision hardware and rapidly iterate to finalize designs, including bench testing and basic functional and development tests.
Work with test engineering to define and execute qualification plans including functional and environmental testing
Work closely with build engineers to ensure new designs are manufacturable at production facilities and DFM feedback is implemented
Manage drawing revisions, BOM structure, and part configuration in accordance with aerospace standards and internal design controls
Continue to iterate on Amca designs to ensure they are fully optimized for reliability and cost
-
Be a leader in developing Amca's design processes
Assist in standard PCBA layout and electrical simulation processes
Assist in PLM development and configuration management for design documentation
Help determine engineering needs in adjacent electrical domains (firmware, software, RF, power, etc)
-
Support Amca with subsidiary diligence and company development
Evaluate product catalogs and help determine where largest opportunities lie for catalog expansion
Assist in the evaluation of subsidiary design, manufacturing, and test capabilities
Mentor early career electrical engineers
Assist with recruiting to build the Avionics department within Amca
Qualifications:
5+ years experience in electrical design in a professional environment
Proficient in electrical design, applying first-principles thinking to power, filtering, logic, software/firmware, and/or production constraints.
Proficient in electrical schematic layout, component selection, and simulation to meet customer requirements. Able to train others.
Proficient with hands-on debugging using standard electrical lab equipment.
Exceptionally curious and fast learner; able to contribute across diverse part categories and manufacturing processes
Demonstrated ability to use engineering first principles to challenge and simplify requirements
Hands-on and practical—comfortable building, testing, and troubleshooting in real-world environments
Independent and creative; thrives with ownership and minimal oversight
Proficient in electrical analysis/simulation
Basic understanding of electrical requirements across domains (power, filtering, logic, software/firmware, RF, etc.)
Plus: familiarity with DO-160, MIL-STD, or other qualification and certification frameworks
